Palmer Alley to the National Archives
CityCenterDC is a five-block development between New York Avenue and H Street NW, and it is where the European fashion houses, jewelers and leather-goods brands keep their DC boutiques. Most face pedestrian Palmer Alley. Penn Quarter is the next district over, and the two share Gallery Place-Chinatown station. Its F Street blocks mix a pen shop, a camera store and a big bookstore with museum stores.
Start late. Most luxury boutiques, including Chanel, Dior and Christian Louboutin, don't open until 11am, or noon on Sundays. Saturday is the best day: Hermès is closed on Sundays, and Louis Vuitton and Tiffany close at 5pm that day. If you want breakfast first, Piccolina da Centrolina (963 Palmer Alley NW) opens at 9am every day for Sicilian street food and wood-oven dishes.
Palmer Alley: The Fashion Houses
Walk the alley from the 9th Street end. Moncler (913 Palmer Alley NW) sells down jackets and outerwear for men, women and kids. David Yurman (924 Palmer Alley NW) has the designer's fine jewelry and watches, including the cable bracelets, and opens at 10am on Saturdays. Dior (933 Palmer Alley NW) carries fashion, jewelry and bags.
Louis Vuitton (983 Palmer Alley NW) has leather goods, luggage and ready-to-wear, and you can collect online orders there. Hermès (1054 Palmer Alley NW) has apparel, handbags, silk scarves, home goods and Hermès Beauty, Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm. At the 11th Street end, Vince (1093 Palmer Alley NW) sells cashmere sweaters, leather, knits and easy tailoring.
I Street, H Street and New York Avenue
The streets around the alley hold the rest. On I Street, Chanel (955 I St NW) sells ready-to-wear, handbags and accessories, and Christian Louboutin (978 I St NW) has the red-soled shoes plus bags and beauty. Bulgari (960 I St NW) is the Roman jeweler's only DC boutique and stays open to 7pm Thursday to Saturday. Gucci (1000 I St NW), Brunello Cucinelli (985 I St NW) and Longchamp (975 H St NW) are close by. Jo Malone London (996 I St NW) does free hand-and-arm massages and has a Tasting Bar for layering scents.
Menswear clusters on H Street. Loro Piana (949 H St NW) sells cashmere and vicuña, Brioni (929 H St NW, #609) does tailored suits, and Allen Edmonds (1071 H St NW) sells dress shoes and shoe-care supplies. Paul Stuart (906 I St NW) is the New York clothier's DC shop. Arc'teryx DC CityCenter (1099 H St NW), open to 8pm, takes eligible used gear through its ReBIRD trade-in for credit worth 30% of the original MSRP. Finish at Tiffany & Co. (960 New York Ave NW), which engraves, embosses leather and cleans and repairs jewelry.
For lunch, Centrolina (974 Palmer Alley NW) is the sit-down Italian across the alley from Piccolina. Save Dolcezza Gelato & Coffee (904 Palmer Alley NW) for later: it scoops until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
F Street: Pens, Cameras and Books
Head south to F Street and work east. At the west end, Fahrney's Pens (1317 F St NW) is a family-owned pen shop with test-writing desks and in-house pen repair; its posted hours run Monday to Saturday, ending at 5pm on Saturdays. Nordstrom Rack (555 12th St NW) is open until 9pm Monday to Saturday. Barnes & Noble F Street (1025 F St NW) is open 10am to 8pm every day, and Sephora (1000 F St NW) carries close to 340 brands.
The 900 block is the most interesting. The Leica Store (977 F St NW) is the camera stop, Peruvian Connection (950 F St NW, Suite 102) shares a building with Mango (950 F St NW), and Alden Shoe Company (921 F St NW) is a few doors on. F Street Fine Wines & Spirits (919 F St NW) is good for less obvious wine picks. If you started early, Blue's Coffee & Tea Company (918 F St NW) is open weekdays from 7am but closed Sundays.
Museum Stores and Chinatown
The SAAM & National Portrait Gallery Museum Store (8th and G Sts NW), by the G Street lobby, sells exhibition catalogues, artist-designed jewelry and scarves, and kids' art kits, from 11:30am to 7pm daily. The Capital One Arena Team Store (601 F St NW) sells Capitals and Wizards gear, Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 5pm on non-event days. In Chinatown, De Zhi Co. (602 H St NW, 2nd Floor) sells herbs, teas, snacks and mooncakes up a flight of stairs.
Two more museum shops are south and east. The National Building Museum Shop (401 F St NW), in the free-to-enter Great Hall, sells housewares, design books and educational toys, Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5pm. The National Archives Store (701 Constitution Ave NW) has more than 4,800 items, including document reproductions and its "government red tape" jewelry, open daily 10am to 5:30pm. On the way, Teaism Tea Shop (400 8th St NW) sells loose-leaf tea and handmade ceramics.
For dinner, MICHELIN lists Zaytinya (701 9th St NW) for Greek, Turkish and Lebanese mezze and Oyamel (401 7th St NW) for Mexican small plates.
Holiday note: The DowntownDC Holiday Market fills F Street between 7th and 9th from Nov. 13 to Dec. 23, 2026.
Garage, Metro and timing
A public parking garage sits directly under CityCenterDC, and most of its restaurants offer valet. In Penn Quarter, Teaism notes a garage on 8th Street, and the American Art Museum notes limited metered street parking and several paid garages nearby.
By Metro, Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Yellow and Green lines) serves both districts; it sits under the American Art Museum at 8th and G. Mount Vernon Square/7th St-Convention Center (Yellow and Green) is also close to CityCenterDC. Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter (Yellow and Green) is across Pennsylvania Avenue from the National Archives, and Judiciary Square (Red) is closest to the Building Museum. The DC Circulator ended service after Dec. 31, 2024.
CityCenterDC's public spaces are open 7am to 10pm daily. On Tuesdays through October, FRESHFARM runs a lunchtime market in the Park at CityCenter with prepared foods.
