Georgetown is an urban campus, and the shops are a walk, not a drive. The front gates sit at 37th and O Streets, and the Georgetown village spreads east and downhill from there. O and P Streets run straight from the gates into the neighborhood. Prospect Street is two blocks down, and M Street and lower Wisconsin Avenue are a few blocks past that. Everything in this guide except the last section is in that walking radius, or up Wisconsin in Glover Park, which The Hoya puts about 15 minutes from the gates on foot.

Prospect Street. Ann Mashburn (3251 Prospect St NW) is an upstairs womenswear shop with made-to-order shirts and dresses, shoes and small gifts. Just Paper & Tea (3232 Prospect St NW) sells stationery, cards and loose-leaf tea, and goldsmith Amanda Hagerman Jewelry (3259 Prospect St NW) has a studio shop across the street.

M Street. Uniqlo Georgetown (3262 M St NW) opened in Georgetown Park in August 2026 and has a RE.UNIQLO repair studio. Sephora Georgetown (3241 M St NW) covers makeup, skincare and haircare. Arc'teryx Georgetown (3218 M St NW) and Patagonia (3104 M St NW) handle a DC winter. Urban Outfitters (3111 M St NW) sells clothes, BDG denim, beauty, home decor and vinyl. J.Crew Georgetown (3077 M St NW) has chinos, sweaters and suiting basics, and Mejuri Georgetown (3225 M St NW) sells fine jewelry.

Lower Wisconsin Avenue. Apple Georgetown (1229 Wisconsin Ave NW) takes Genius Bar appointments when a laptop dies before finals. On Georgetown (1211 Wisconsin Ave NW) sells the Swiss brand's running and training shoes and apparel. Tuckernuck (1267 Wisconsin Ave NW), the DC-founded preppy womenswear label, opened its flagship here in March 2026.

Official Georgetown gear is at the Georgetown University Bookstore in the Leavey Center (3700 O St NW), on campus. The university calls it a one-stop shop for Georgetown apparel, gifts and school materials, including textbooks. Barnes & Noble took over running the store from Follett in 2016, according to The Hoya, and the paper's orientation guide puts it across from Sellinger Lounge.

Store hours are not posted on the university's pages, so call ahead; the Student Centers information desk is (202) 687-6111. The Leavey Center is open around the clock, with GOCard access on nights and weekends.

The big errands happen up Wisconsin Avenue in Glover Park, just north of campus.

  • Safeway (1855 Wisconsin Ave NW) is open 24 hours, with beer and wine sold 8am to 10pm.
  • Trader Joe's Glover Park (2101 Wisconsin Ave NW, Ste A) is good for frozen meals, snacks, cheese and cheap flowers.
  • Whole Foods Market Glover Park (2323 Wisconsin Ave NW) has quick meals, salads, baked goods and coffee.
  • Glover Park Ace Hardware (2233 Wisconsin Ave NW) is the place for command hooks, extension cords, light bulbs and housewares. Parking behind the store is validated.
  • CVS (2226 Wisconsin Ave NW) is listed as a 24-hour location, with a short closure from 1:30 to 2pm, and it prints photos for a dorm wall.

For an upperclass apartment, Blu Dot (3333 M St NW) sells modern furniture and holds floor-sample sales, and A Mano (1677 Wisconsin Ave NW) has tabletop and homeware for something nicer than plastic bins.

Vintage and consignment. Current Boutique Georgetown (1068 31st St NW) sells pre-owned designer clothing, shoes and handbags at up to 70% off retail, and it takes consignments. Nunumia Vintage (1610 Wisconsin Ave NW) is a vintage clothing shop that opened in 2025. The volunteer-run Christ Child Opportunity Shop (1427 Wisconsin Ave NW) is open Wednesday to Sunday afternoons.

Books. The Lantern (3241 P St NW) is a volunteer-run used and rare bookshop on Book Hill, open Thursday to Sunday. Flor. Coffee + Books (1220 31st St NW) is a cafe with a second-floor shop of English and Spanish titles, open from 7am on weekdays.

Records and sneakers. Georgetown has no dedicated record shop, but Urban Outfitters on M Street carries vinyl. For running shoes, On is on lower Wisconsin.

  • Just Paper & Tea (3232 Prospect St NW): custom stationery for graduation announcements and thank-you notes, plus loose-leaf tea. Closed Mondays.
  • Mejuri Georgetown (3225 M St NW) and Amanda Hagerman Jewelry (3259 Prospect St NW): a necklace or ring for a graduate. Call Amanda Hagerman before going, since hours are not posted.
  • The Phoenix (1514 Wisconsin Ave NW): family-run since 1955, with clothing, jewelry and home decor. Closed Mondays.
  • Bacchus Wine Cellar (1635 Wisconsin Ave NW): rare and artisanal bottles for a parent or a 21-and-over graduate.
  • Georgetown Tobacco (3144 M St NW): open since 1964, with cigars and pipes plus vintage cufflinks and lighters, a classic gift for a parent.

For anything with the university's name on it, go to the campus bookstore.

Coffee and bagels by the gates. Call Your Mother (3428 O St NW) does bagels, sandwiches and coffee two blocks from the front gates. Epicurean & Company (3800 Reservoir Rd NW) is a buffet and sandwich spot at the north edge of campus. On Wisconsin, Tatte Bakery & Cafe (1545 Wisconsin Ave NW) has pastries, sandwiches and bowls, and Boulangerie Christophe (1422 Wisconsin Ave NW) bakes French pastries and sandwiches. Baked & Wired (1052 Thomas Jefferson St NW) pours coffee and sells cupcakes daily from 8am to 4pm.

Cheap eats. The Hoya's 2026 student guide likes Falafel Inc. (1210 Potomac St NW) for falafel and za'atar fries, and 90 Second Pizza (1077 Wisconsin Ave NW) for fast oven-fired pies with vegan options. Chaia (3207 Grace St NW) makes vegetarian tacos, Oki Bowl (1608 Wisconsin Ave NW) does ramen, and Thomas Sweet (3214 P St NW) scoops ice cream on Book Hill. Yellow (1524 Wisconsin Ave NW), a Middle Eastern cafe, has a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, so expect a line.

Parents' dinner. 1789 (1226 36th St NW) is a block from campus and on the MICHELIN Guide's recommended list, with French and American dishes in a Federal-period townhouse. The Tombs shares the address and is the casual, cheaper choice. La Bonne Vache (3265 Prospect St NW) serves burgers and French dishes with no reservations, and Martin's Tavern (1264 Wisconsin Ave NW) has served American food since 1933. For a big celebration, Xiquet (2404 Wisconsin Ave NW) in Glover Park holds a MICHELIN star.

Georgetown has no Metro station. The university runs the free GUTS shuttle for students, faculty and staff and others affiliated with Georgetown and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

  • Rosslyn Shuttle: stops at North Moore St and 19th St, by Rosslyn Station (Blue, Orange and Silver lines). Monday to Friday, 4:45am to midnight, about 15 minutes.
  • Dupont Circle Shuttle: stops at 20th St and Massachusetts Ave NW, by Dupont Circle Station on the Red Line. Monday to Friday, 6am to midnight, about 20 minutes.
  • Weekends: the 55 H Street Weekend and Weekend Combination shuttles. Shuttles do not run on summer weekends.

The DC Circulator stopped running after December 31, 2024, and its Georgetown route was folded into a Metrobus route along H and I Streets. Families who drive can use the Washington Harbour garage at 3000 K St NW, closest to lower Wisconsin and M Street.

Take the GUTS Dupont Circle Shuttle to Dupont Circle for bookstores: Second Story Books (2000 P St NW) is a big used bookstore open daily until 10pm, Fantom Comics (2010 P St NW) is next door, and Kramers (1517 Connecticut Ave NW) pairs books with a full restaurant. The closest real record store is Smash! Records (2314 18th St NW) in Adams Morgan, with new and used vinyl.

For a big move-in haul, T.J. Maxx (5300 B Wisconsin Ave NW) at Friendship Heights sells discounted clothing, home goods and beauty. It is at the far north end of Wisconsin Avenue, so plan it as a trip.
